I was looking through some of my old files and stumbled upon some old stories I wrote. The kicker: each story is only six words. I had about three dozen of them. Some were decent, others not so much. Here are some of the ones I liked.
Natural Progression
Arrows. Bullets. Bombs. Decline of man.
Condemnation
Death by hanging. Innocence meant nothing.
Life In America
When I was young, Dad left.
Flight 206
Eighty horrific deaths. One plane down.
Cupcake
Lost: brown kitten. Goes by Cupcake.
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a couple six word stories of you own. Let’s see what you’ve got!

TSA:
A costly show, for little go

Seems like that would work for just about everything in this country anymore.

Okay, man, I’m going to give this a shot. I remember another writer had done this as well, Ernest Hemingway. His went: For sale: baby shoes, never worn. So, anyway, here goes:
………………………………………………………
The Party
Drinks, lights faded. Dawn’s bloody thighs.
………………………………………………………
1969
My brother was sent. I lived.

Hemingway’s was what inspired me to give it a go. I’m sure in its day it was a powerful story, but it our land of excess today it doesn’t really have a strong impact. At least not on me. I can say from experience my kid grew so fast that she had multiple pairs of shoes that never got worn.

Wow, and I thought 100 words for FF was tricky enough.
Very good!

Six words is definitely not easy. I ended up with way more terrible attempts than decent ones.

Nice! Not sure which is my favorite. I think it’s a tie between “Life in America” and “Flight 206.”
I think I’ll take your challenge. I never tried this one before! Should be a good way to get the writing juices flowing this week.

Those were my favorites as well. Heading over to check out what you came up with now!

I like doing 6 word stories. Makes you think quickly. Great ones!

I agree, it’s definitely a fun exercise in choosing the right words. Would you be willing to share some of your 6 worders?

A really neat — and tough-sounding — challenge to carve a story down to a mere 6 words. You rocked it in your stories, and my favorite is “Natural Progression” — a powerful one for such a short line.

You should give it a shot. It’s quite fun. Difficult, but fun. If you’re anything like me you’ll likely end up with a larger pile of crap than good ones. The beauty of six words is that they don’t take very long to write so even half a dozen that will never see the light of day and one good one can be done in under a half hour.

I’ll certainly give it a shot. I had tried creating stories of up to 140 characters to fit in a tweet, so I’ll try out just six words. Thanks for the inspiration!
