Friday Fictioneers: The Apartment at the Bottom of the Stairs

Just two notes to mention, minions:

#1 – As some of you know, I host a 6 word story prompt on the 6th of each month. Most of you don’t know, however, that I also run a 300-500 word story prompt on the 21st of each month called Storybook Corner. That happens to be today in case you weren’t aware. The prompt is HERE if you’re interested in taking part. You’ve got a whole month to get your stories into the linkup.

#2 – The Facebook linkup is still up and running. Add your Facebook page and “like” the others to show your support for your fellow writers. Remember, this is a linkup for ONLY Facebook pages, not your Fictioneers stories or blogs. The linkup is HERE.

Jim poked his head over the railing and stared down. The stairs descended to the point of being enveloped by darkness. “They look like they go on forever.”

“A clever trick of the eye, I assure you, sir.”

“How far are we going, exactly?”

“All the way, sir.”

“How long will it take? That’s a lot of stairs.”

“Indeed, but there is a faster way.”

“You have an elevator?”

“No, no. Nothing so grand as that.” Mr. Skits peered over the railing into the inky blackness and grinned. “Going down,” he announced and upended Jim by yanking his belt upward.

This post was written as part of the weekly Friday Fictioneers writing prompt. I’ve decided to spend some time getting to know the kids at the back of the class as I have the unfortunate tendency of not making it to their stories most weeks for lack of time to read all 100+ entries. I’ve always been more of a back of the class kind of guy anyway. Them’s my people. That being said I’ll be posting on Friday’s instead of Wednesdays for awhile (and start my reading from the bottom of the list instead of the top), which means I’ll appear near the bottom of the list. That means I’ll likely be sacrificing page views, but life isn’t about page views, now is it?

I’ve introduced a new character here, and yes, he’s as demented as I’ve made him out to be–probably even more-so. He’ll likely eventually get his own longer story, probably entitled The Twisted Mr. Skits, but I’m working on a different project at the moment so he’ll have to keep on festering in my head for awhile longer.

Now, go read the offerings to the dark gods by the other Fictioneers, dear minions.
