Today is President’s Day here in the US. That being the case, here’s a quote from one of the greatest.
There is nothing which can better deserve your patronage than the promotion of science and literature. Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of public happiness.
– George Washington
With all due respect, I believe this quote is highly flawed and I would like to propose a new and improved version. Feel free to quote me on this…
Have you liked my facebook page (Adam Ickes – Author) yet? Go on, be a good little minion and give it a like. Don’t worry, I won’t bite. I can’t promise the same kindness from the characters in my stories though.
While you’re at it, you should follow me on the Twitter machine as well, immediately and henceforth: @AdamIckes
It’s Wednesday again, folks. That means it’s time for the quote of the week. This week, our quote comes from the wondrous mind of Mr. Ray Bradbury:
I often follow these words of wisdom myself. I’ve actually followed them since before I even knew of them. I don’t like telling my characters where to go. I enjoy the journey of letting them take me along for their ride. I am in essence just their ghost writer. I don’t exist in their worlds so I shouldn’t try to play God with those worlds, simple as that. The words may be mine, but the story is theirs.
Here’s to a wonderful rest of the week. Enjoy it everyone.
Happy Wednesday! Sorry for the late post. It’s been a little hectic today. Today’s quote comes from the King of Pop. I never said my quotes would all be about writing!
I sometimes forget that I should strive to better myself to make the world better for those around me. I’m sure we’re all guilty of needing to make a few changes. No one is perfect, after all. So start with the man (or woman) in the mirror. You can change the world, you’ve just got to start with yourself.
It’s Wednesday. Do you know what that means? Time for some random inspiration! Today’s quote comes from Robert Louis Stevenson.
I find a hard to swallow truth in these words. I think that’s why I’m so hard on my writing. It doesn’t always match what I was going for. It may still be good/decent/great, but it isn’t quite what I had hoped for. Sometimes it’s better than I’d hoped for, but it’s often hard to see that when you don’t quite hit the mark you were going for. But that shouldn’t matter. As the saying goes, “You only fail when you don’t try.” Keep churning out those stories, friends. Don’t let a little thing like writing something you didn’t mean to say get in the way. That’s what editing is for!
