Six on the Sixth Prompt – Feb 2016

6on6It’s that time of the month again! No not that time!

It’s time for some six word stories! Currently there isn’t a huge following, but hopefully as time passes more and more writers around the world will be contributing to this little exercise in creativity.

This post will act as the prompt for tomorrow’s event. I say tomorrow because that’s when I’ll be posting my stories, but feel free to be flexible with the day on which you post yours.

The idea is to write anywhere from one to ten six word stories. I usually go with six of them, just to keep the six theme rolling.

I’ve decided to do away with the inlinkz linkup until we gain some more followers. We’re going to do it old school instead. Just post a link to your stories in the comments of mine (and any others that you read).

To be clear, as the stories are so short, it is NOT MANDATORY that you use the prompt words. Be inspired by as many or as few as you see fit. Most of all, have fun! That being said, the following random words are this month’s prompts:

Goblin

Spit

Shine

Belittle

Gape

Maintenance

Charlie’s Last Chance

009Xavier looked over his shoulder. His small, pointed nose and out of proportion eyes reminded Charlie of an owl turning its head around.

“Charles, you’ve failed. Again,” said Xavier.

“Y-y-yes, I know, but…” Charlie stammered.

“But nothing. I can’t keep giving you special treatment. I just can’t. It’s bad for morale.” Xavier rubbed his forehead. “You have no idea how hard this is for me.”

Charlie’s eyes bulged. “Don’t do this. Just one more chance, please. That’s all I ask. One more chance!”

“I gave you one last chance last time, Charles. And the time before that. And the time before that even.” Xavier shook his head. Still he didn’t turn around to face the younger man. “I’m sorry, but you’ve run out of chances.”

“But, Dad! You can’t kill your own son!”

Xavier kneaded his hands together. “Sometimes life gives you hard choices with obvious answers, Charles. I’ve put off this decision long enough. To continue down this path would be foolish at best. If I were to continue giving you special treatment the others might start expecting the same.” He finally turned around, his eyes cold and hard. “That is a risk not worth taking, my boy.”

Charlie tried to speak, but no words passed his lips.

“Guards!” Xavier shouted then watched as his only son was dragged away to be executed. Sleep would not come easily that night.

This story is my response to my Storybook Corner – Sept 2015 prompt.

The world swam in indiscernible blobs of color as the toxin coursed through his veins. His thoughts jumbled into one big, incoherent mess.

The ringing in his ears drowned out the screams of his companions. He could remember that there were others, but he couldn’t recall their names or visualize their faces. Everything was just colors–red, orange, and yellow all blurred together.

His arm hurt. Something about teeth pushed through the jumble of disheveled memories. Was he bitten? He didn’t know–couldn’t remember.

The others, did they do this to him?

What others?

He couldn’t remember others–only hunger.

My mind has been foggy lately, a bit like this guy’s–except I haven’t been bitten by a zombie. At least I don’t think I have.

Six on the Sixth: August

What Once Was bound (chair)

The rope broke. She was free.

The Junker (automobile)

A car without a key: worthless.

Cat and Mouse (duck)

Through hungry, clawing trees, she ran.

Her Captor (black)

Hands around her neck stopped her.

Breaking Point (anger)

Scared and angry, she fought back.

Removing the Sin (sink)

Bloody water swirled down the drain.

6on6

I’ll leave it at that and let you decide which of our characters came out the victor. These extremely short stories are my contribution to Six on the Sixth, a prompt I host on the sixth of every month. As always, I like to make my six stories flow together to create a bigger picture–a 36 word story if you will. Now, be a good little minion and go read the contributions of the other great writers who have taken part.

Speaking of creativity, I went ahead and created a logo for this little game we play. Extra points go to anyone who can positively identify the man on the top holding the gun. Extra points don’t mean much considering we don’t keep score, but it’s the thought that counts right?

This post will act as the prompt for tomorrow’s event. I say tomorrow because that’s when I’ll be posting my stories, but feel free to be flexible with the day on which you post yours. The linkup will be open all month.
